Menu suggestions. Sent 2010/10/02

Suggestion about the format or the metadata:
The kindle supports collections: these collections are defined by the user. But, we have book series (for example, Discworld Novels), and it's position.
We also have other metadata as the user valoration, or the genre.
As long as I know, the mobipocket format does not support those metadata, so, if we can add those metadata to the format, or create an aditional file with that metadata, we can search with more acuracy the books we want to read (read the next suggestion)

Suggestion about the home screen:
I prefer using the "most recent" sort option, but when I have finished reading one book, and try to search a related book, then I have to "navigate" in a lot of pages to find the next book. Also, if one day i have as many books in the kindle as i have in paper (2173), it will be a pain search for books.
The idea is that in the first page we have the most probable books (icluding pending to buy), but when i press "next page", I am looking for a not related book.
Well, a picture worth a thousand words:

First page
I have a kindle dx, but the images in the help manual where from the kindle, i hope the idea is clear.
  1. Well, imagine this books belongs to the series "Angustenworld", and this is the second volume
  2. Hey, we have just finished reading the volume 1 of the series "Angustenworld", so we have here, in the "Most recent"
  3. We havent this book, but is the next on the series, so we suggest to buy this book (Yo can see in the right the text "ready to buy").
  4. We have in the kindle memory the forth volume of the series, so, we suggest it (It's not in the list "most recent")
As you can see, in the "showing related items" section, we have more books, redy to buy and in the kindle. That means that all the books we buy must download metadata (to realate with the books that there are in the kindle), and suggestions books.
Also, you can see the label "ready to buy". May be we can use other tags as "check for item" (if the book is going to be soon), or "reserve now" (if we know the future price), or even "let me know" (If is cooming but we dont know when).

Next pages
  1. Again, we can see this books series (Mort -> discworld volume 4)
  2. We can start the search directly, it's not necessary open the menu.

Configuration page
This page is nor really necesary, but if we want to configure, then:

And then, we open this screen:

The important thing about this screen, is the fact that we diferentiate the order type betwen the first page and the rest of the pages.
Suggestion about the "Popular Highlights":
I like a lot this feature, but only works well with the recent books. Once the book is really popular, and a lot of people are commenting the book, then, tends to be completely highlighted (as we can see in the fisrts pages of "treasure Island"). It wold be very interesting to select this feature book by book instead globally, and/or create groups of highlights (For example, if we are reading Othello, then we can create/select the group "Orson-Welles-1952-comparison" or the "play-study-shekspeare-institute-2010").

Suggestion about reviews:
I dont usually make reviews of the books:is not "easy" to remember once readed. It wold be nice if the kindle asks for a review once the book has been finished (we have pass over 90% of the pages, and we start with another book. With a "not yet" option), and save that review with the metadata for further readings.

Why create a blog for suggestions?

Well, thats a difficult question. I have a kindle dx, and I like it. I really like it (probably I wont read again in paper, if I can avoid it). I have send some suggestions, and I would like to remember what I suggested.

So, this blog is a log of those suggestions, and the sugestions I read and liked.

There is no more meaning for this blog.

Well, if you want to speak about kindle, there is a great forum in http://www.kindleboards.com/

Another thing, as you can see, I'm not a native english speaker, if you find some error, please, correct me.
